COLLEGE STATION, Texas—A showing of the award-winning documentary “Harvested Alive” at Texas A&M University on Sept. 28 left audience members wanting to spread the word about atrocities taking place in China.

The film tells the story of a 10-year-long investigation by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) into the crimes of mass forced organ harvesting in China.

Reports by former Canadian Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific) David Kilgour, international human rights lawyer David Matas, and investigative journalist Ethan Gutmann, as well as by WOIPFG, have previously marshalled the evidence showing that there has been mass killing of prisoners of conscience to supply China’s transplantation industry with organs, starting soon after the Chinese regime’s persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999.

“Harvested Alive” also presents this evidence, but it does so to make the case that the organ harvesting in China is a state-directed crime.

As director Jun Li told The Epoch Times in a previous interview, “These are not doctors acting in their individual capacity, but the entire state apparatus that is committing this heinous crime.”

The order to pillage the organs of Falun Gong practitioners came from the top down. The film quotes former Politburo member Bo Xilai as saying that then-Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin had “issued the order of live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners.”

Significance

Organized by the university chapter of Amnesty International, the showing of the award-winning film—which in January won Hollywood International Independent Documentary awards in the categories of director and foreign documentary feature—had created some buzz on campus.

The registration was full two days prior to the event, and as a result, many people inquired if they could still attend as unregistered guests. Many viewers showed up early to get their seats, and a handful could not be admitted after all the seats were filled.

The full house of 180 was moved by the film, as evidenced by the discussion that followed, with remarks by College Station Mayor Karl P. Mooney setting the tone.

“What are you going to do to be significant in this world? How are you going to make a difference? You can make a difference,” Mooney said.

“Some of you have parents, friends, grandparents who might need a transplant, and you can discourage them from going to China, from utilizing this particular source,” Mooney said. “That’s one step. Take the knowledge that you gained tonight, establish a purpose for your life, and strive to be significant!”

Mooney broadened his talk from what the audience members could do in response to the film, to what the United States could do.

“The U.S. has taken one step with H.Res.343, back in June of 2016,” Mooney said. That House resolution expresses “concern regarding persistent and credible reports of systematic, state-sanctioned organ harvesting from non-consenting prisoners of conscience in the People’s Republic of China, including from large numbers of Falun Gong practitioners and members of other religious and ethnic minority groups.”

Mooney said he hoped the Senate would now pass a similar resolution.

“I hope that President Trump will look at it particularly once the Senate comes up with the resolution,” Mooney said, “and decide [on] the appropriate avenue of communication to China.

“You can’t turn a deaf ear [on this].”

Taking Action

In the audience were over a dozen members of the Corps of Cadets, a uniformed, student military organization at Texas A&M.

“The film is extremely eye-opening,” said cadet David Campbell. “It breaks my heart to see something so awful is happening in the world, and it makes me want to continue my academics so I can make a positive change in the future.”

Cadet Robert Riegert said: “This film motivates me to protect my family and the families that can’t protect themselves. So as a cadet, that’s what I come away with tonight.”

Campbell agreed with one of Mooney’s suggestions, discouraging others from going to China for transplants. “I have family members who are going through surgeries,” Campbell said. “The very first thing I was thinking as the documentary was ending is that when I get out of here, I will immediately tell them, ‘Don’t go to China to get these procedures.’”

Riegert wants to spread the word about what he learned from the film. “We will do as much as we can to get the word out. It shouldn’t be happening. We will do what we can to help stop it,” he said.

Faviana Soto, an international studies student, said: “This issue is going to reach people in Honduras because I will tell my family members and my friends and share the documentary with them. This is a very good start to exposing this issue.”

The documentary is free to download from the film’s website, HarvestedAlive.com, and so can easily be shared.

Many of the audience members signed a petition urging Texas senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz to co-sponsor the resolution S.Res.220.

That resolution, which is being considered by the Senate during this session of Congress, expresses “solidarity with Falun Gong practitioners who have lost lives, freedoms, and rights for adhering to their beliefs and practices” and condemns “the practice of non-consenting organ harvesting.”

Stephen Gregory contributed to this report.

Investigator from the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG): “Zhu Jiabin, you all harvested the organs of Gao Yixi, where is your conscience?”

Zhu Jiabin, the director of the Integrated Division of 610 Office in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province: “I just know that I can sell these organs after I harvest them; this is how I operate.
“If you have the courage, come stand in front of me, and I will also harvest your organs from you. People call me ‘The Butcher’. Next time, the next time you call, don’t use my name, I’ve changed my name, call me ‘The Butcher.’”

The evening of Aug. 25, 2017, more than 150 people watched the English-language premiere of “Harvested Alive – 10 Years of Investigation” at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia.

Comments made in the documentary by a 610 Office director who calls himself “The Butcher” drew outraged cries from members of the audience in Melbourne; many people shook their heads, unable to accept the shameless audacity of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official.

The Melbourne premiere was the second screening of the English version of the documentary in the world. It was the first time in Australia that this film has been shown to an entirely English-speaking audience. At the screening venue, no seats were left empty.

Forced organ harvesting widespread after the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong

“Harvested Alive – 10 Years of Investigation” presents the results of 10 years of investigative work carried out by the WOIPFG into forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience in China. Through extensive first-hand evidence, the documentary shows how forced organ harvesting of practitioners was initiated by former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Jiang Zemin and how it is a state-sanctioned crime that involves the Party’s Political and Legal Affairs Commission, military, and judicial departments all working in unison to carry out his directives.

Ninety-five percent of the evidence presented in the documentary comes directly from mainland China, and the sources include Chinese doctors, reports from Chinese media, official websites of Chinese hospitals, Chinese courts of law, the Party’s Politics and Legal Affairs Committee, the “610 Office” (the institution illegally set up by the CCP for the sole purpose of persecuting Falun Gong), a former Central Defense Minister, and five members of the Politburo Standing Committee.

Though multifaceted evidence, the documentary shows that China’s transplantation industry experienced explosive growth in organ transplants since the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999.

After the screening, the documentary’s protagonist Dr Wang Zhiyuan and its director Li Jun, through live web cams, answered various questions raised by members of the audience.

After listening to the Q&A, a member of the audience suggested that everyone present write a letter to their Member of Parliament to ask for a law to ban Australians from traveling to China for organ transplantation and to prohibit organs that originated in China from entering Australia. “We have witnessed today the reality of how the Chinese Communist Party is making money from forced organ harvesting,” he said. His comments were met with enthusiastic applause from the rest of the audience.

Documentary reminds us that the persecution continues

After watching the documentary, chairman of the National Civic Council (NCC) of Australia Peter Westmore said it was a very important documentary and he was delighted attend the premiere.

“It reminds us again of the continuing persecution of Falun Gong in China, but also brings it up to date and shows that this is not a problem from history, from the past, it’s something that continues to the present day,” he said.

“And [it’s] also an encouragement to us in Australia to stand beside the people who have been persecuted and to add our voice to that of others in supporting them, and to say to them that it is not in vain your sacrifices for what you believe in and for the principles that you stand for are very important, not just for China but actually for the whole world.”

Organ harvesting instigator should be put in a mental hospital

Andrew Bush, a senior member of the Liberal Party and human rights activist, said, “They [the CCP] hate anything that is not atheistic, and they hate anything that smacks of spirituality, or religion, but that’s still no reason and no justification for using the practitioners as a means of making money and controlling people, and that’s what they’ve done.

“It is effectively another holocaust.”

“I would like to see every single country that trades with China to simply say to China, ‘As of now we are stopping trade until you stop this practice, because China does understand money.’”

Bush felt that Australians should act.

“If we all write to our local members and suggest that they make it illegal to go to China for an organ, or make it illegal to accept an organ from China, that helps cut off the supply of candidates.

“It’s an horrific situation which never should have been allowed to develop. And whoever thought of it, which is Jiang Zemin, should have been put into a mental health institution for even thinking about it, because it is wrong and that’s my view.”

Glad to be no longer deceived and to learn the truth

Zhang Ying (an alias), a student from Mainland China studying in Australia, was unable to suppress the shock she felt after watching the documentary. She was struggling to come to terms with the fact that she had been fooled by the CCP for so many years. “I was quite shocked just now!” she said. “How can we stop this from happening [organ harvesting]?”

“I am very glad that I have the chance to go abroad and learn the truth.

“I am still quite shocked, and I hope that I have the chance to tell people around me about these stories. And I hope that one day if I can save one person, that to me is a big deal already.”

Laura De Bono, a student in Melbourne majoring in international development, said, “I’ve seen people in the streets talking about this issue before, but I never really investigated much, so I wanted to come along to the screening to learn a bit more about it.”

Bono was frustrated that diplomatic pressure from the international community had seemed to make the organ harvesting issue only more hidden from the general public.

“It’s still ongoing [organ harvesting], so it just made me wonder where the solution is going to come from—maybe more education amongst the public, or some kind of incentive from the government to change their actions,” she said.

Bono said she wanted to help “make more people aware of what is going on in China, and certainly discourage anyone from thinking about going over there for organ transplants.” Bono said she would continue to monitor developments.

Stefan Schneider, a computer programmer, said that he had heard of the CCP harvesting organs from Falun Gong practitioners. He had seen people handing out flyers on the streets of Melbourne, and read materials regarding organ harvesting, but he had not investigated the matter deeply prior to seeing the documentary.

“Like a lot of people, I was hoping it was a low-level criminal, some low levels in the government doing it, but it sounds like it moves quite high up in the scale which is distressing,” he said.

“It does sound more difficult because of that high level of corruption, so it really does need to be a government pressure thing,” he said.

“The really good thing to do is to write to your Member of Parliament and to tell them that you don’t want Chinese organs coming into Australia while this problem exists and you don’t want Australians to be allowed to go to China to get organs harvested, and this way you can cut off at least the financial incentive for people to participate in the practise.”

Leon, a university lecturer, hoped that he could help those who have been persecuted by the CCP. “We all have a responsibility for humanity, a responsibility about the philosophy of morality. We need to look after each other and love each other, and help each other. We need to stand up for justice, for freedom, and democracy,” he said.

”We need to speak out,” he said.

The Australian Government should stand out and make the right choice

The organizer of this screening, Australian branch of Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting Leigh Smith said that this state-sanctioned crime of organ harvesting is happening in China, that it has the tacit approval and involvement of the government and military, and that it is the most spine-chilling thing that has happened in this world.

“Kind people are being slaughtered,” she said. “When we hear that these people are having their organs harvested while alive, sometimes even without the use of anesthesia, they are being operated on while screaming in pain, this is simply inconceivable. That this kind of heinous crime is still happening in today’s world, this is simply appalling.

“We should urge the Australian government to stand out and voice out, and make the right choice. When faced with such evil, if people still remain silent, what more will it take before they will act? When will you act?” Smith said.

“Harvested Alive – 10 years of investigation”, which won a number of international documentary awards, premiered in Tainan on August 5. The film described how the Chinese Communist Part (CCP) is using the apparatus of the entire state to carry out an inhumane massacre, eliciting condemnation from various members of the audience – “this is outrageous! “, “very evil!” “destroying human morality!” “quite shocking!”

Attendees include people from all walks of life who are concerned about the persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP, such as Tainan City Councilor Xu Zhichun, founder of the food processing trade union Wei Chenyang, and Tong Yi International Company Chairman Wu Haiyang. They came in person to watch the film. Other parties like legislator Huang Weizhe, Tainan City Councilor Lin Yanzhu, City Councilor Li Wenzheng, and former deputy mayor of Tainan Yan Chunzuo sent representatives to lend their support.

The special assistant of Tainan City Councilor Li Wenzheng, Li Qiwei, said that the evil deeds committed by the CCP in harvesting organs from Falun Gong practitioners were condemned by the international community. They violate human rights and destroy human morality. He saw that the film had provided abundant evidence that the CCP is still continuing its practice of live organ harvesting, and he hoped that people would continue to voice their condemnation of the CCP.

He expressed his admiration of the righteous people who stood out and made their voices heard in the film. The executive director of corporate social responsibility, Yang Zhenqin, said that apart from highlighting the issue of live organ harvesting, the film also taught people about justice, instilling a sense of justice in kind-hearted people, and thus improve society as a whole.

“I am very angry! ” Mr. Zeng, who retired from China Steel, said that society under the CCP’s totalitarian rule was exactly the same as that of a prison, anyone who offends the CCP will potentially have one’s organs harvested, it was really abhorrent!

Today, he finally saw truthful reporting on the matter, “If I haven’t seen such truthful reporting, I won’t know that such a cruel thing is happening. “

Mr. Zeng hoped that the media should do more exposés, fulfill its role as a messenger of justice, find ways to dig out evidence of live organ harvesting and publish them to the international community, so that the 7 billion people in the world will know the truth and nobody with a conscience will go to China for organ transplantation.

Professor Wang Chung-yu, Chairman of the Rescue Falun Gong Practitioners Association of Taiwan, said that this film showed the public that live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners is a crime that is committed by the state – this is a shocking revelation for many. He hoped that after watching the film and realizing the truth, the good conscience of people will be aroused; at the same time, everyone should, together, through various methods and influence, or at least in thought (if not in deed), reject this evil phenomenon and stop the persecution.

WOIPFG has released lists of the alleged perpetrators of the persecution: 76,132 individuals and 35,551 institutions were suspected of having participated in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Among them, 7,716 individuals are from the “610 Office” system, and 9,816 individuals are from the Commission of Political and Legal Affairs. As of August, 2016, there have been a total of 82 series of reports on the live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China for the past 10 years, implicating 891 Chinese hospitals and 9,519 doctors who are suspected of having committed the crimes. More than 10 thousand investigative phone calls have been made, and recipients include five Politburo Standing Committee members, one vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), one Politburo member, one CMC member and former defense minister, and one department head of the People’s Liberation Army. ◇

By Chen Li, Epochtimes, Washington DC. June 25, 2017

“These are not doctors acting in their individual capacity, but the entire state apparatus that is committing this heinous crime.”

Due to the urgency of the situation, “Every day was a race against time. I used the fastest method possible to produce this film.”

Those were the heartfelt words from Jun Li, the director of the documentary film “Harvested Alive – Ten Years of Investigation”. On June 23, the English version of the film premiered in Rayburn Building of the US Congress, Washington DC, leaving the audience shocked after watching this documentary. According to sources, it has already been awarded the most outstanding foreign language film and best director awards during the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Festival.

This film summarizes the results of ten years of work done by members of the “World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG)” in investigating the truth behind the harvesting of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). 95% of the evidence presented comes directly from mainland China, and the sources include Chinese doctors, reports from the Chinese media, official websites of Chinese hospitals, Chinese courts of law, the CCP’s Politics and Law Committee, the “610″ office (the institution illegally set up by the CCP for the sole purpose of persecuting Falun Gong), the former Central Defense Minister and 5 members from the Politburo Standing Committee.

On June 23, at the documentary’s premiere at the US Congress building, director Jun Li said in an onsite interview that what made this documentary different from all previous documentaries on live organ harvesting, was that nearly one-third of the film’s duration was spent explaining how this is a crime that is committed by the country itself – a crime that is committed by the ruling regime – and a crime that is directly instigated by the CCP’s highest level of authority.

He said: “It is not an issue about just hospitals competing for more business amongst themselves, this issue involves the entire government, from Jiang Zemin to the Politics and Law Committee, the police, the army, the local ‘610’ officials, the court, and down to the hospitals – it is the entire state apparatus that is involved. This is not done by individuals alone, this is done by the regime itself, it is a crime committed by the state. A regime that harvests organs from its own citizens while they are still alive, and done in massive quantities during a time of peace – I think this is evil that is unprecedented in human history. What kind of government would harvest organs from its own citizens during peacetime?

On September 13, 2006, when the then-minister of commerce Bo Xilai accompanied the then-premier Wen Jiabao on a visit to Hamburg, Germany, in a recorded conversation, Bo personally admitted that “Chairman Jiang (Zemin) issued the order of live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners”.

Bai Shuzhong, an ex-general overseeing the health department in the People’s Liberation Army, also admitted in a recorded conversation that ex-leader of the CCP, Jiang Zemin, personally instructed that organs be harvested from Falun Gong practitioners for use in transplantation.

WOIPFG president, Wang Zhiyuan, said that an official from the US Congress and Administration’s Chinese Committee (CECC) said to him that they have been monitoring the issue of live organ harvesting by the CCP over the years, and after watching the documentary, he was shocked. He expressed his thanks to WOIPFG for spending ten years to investigate this issue with such startling results.

Mr. Roberson Korger, who watched the film in Congress on the same day, said he was shocked. “This documentary widens one’s perspective,” he said. “Forced organ harvesting is shocking. This is genocide, and the scale at which it is done, is equivalent to mass murder, this is appalling. “

“We should increase public awareness of this matter, so that more people can take part. This is a horrible atrocity, I believe any American who understands the situation should support the abolishment of forced organ harvesting.”

“The Communist Party is very authoritarian and I believe that an authoritarian political party will do such a thing. This has changed my view of China, I think this issue is something that should not happen in 2017, our present day and age” he said.

Another member of the audience, Russell King, said: “There is no doubt that this is a tragedy.” He believes that the US government can provide assistance at many levels; regarding the incident where an American student died after returning from North Korea, to the US, it also served as a warning on how it should handle US-China relations, as many similar tragedies have occurred in China.

According to sources, “Harvested Alive – Ten Years of Investigation” has been translated into more than 10 languages, including English, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean. Readers can also visit the official website www.harvestedalive.com, to watch this documentary.

Roberson Korger
